How In-Browser JSON Formatting & Validation Works

JSON Formatter & Validator runs entirely in your browser with JavaScript. There is no sign-up, and whatever you type or open here is processed on your device instead of being sent to a server.

Format and Validate JSON Locally Without Server Storage

Paste minified or unformatted JSON to automatically validate syntax and format it with clean indentation. Formatters that work on a server receive a copy of whatever you paste into them. This tool formats and parses everything directly in your browser memory, keeping sensitive configuration files, API payloads, and database dumps completely private.

Preserving 64-Bit Integer Precision

Standard web parsers often round large 64-bit numeric IDs when converting text to numbers. In browsers that support JSON.rawJSON, such as current Chrome, Edge and Firefox, large integers like database and snowflake IDs are kept exactly as typed; older browsers may round numbers longer than about 16 digits.

Instant Syntax Error Diagnostics

If your JSON has syntax issues such as missing commas, unclosed brackets, trailing commas or unquoted keys, the status line shows the line and column where parsing stopped, which is usually right after the real mistake. Comments (// or /* */) are not part of JSON, so files with comments, such as JSONC settings files, are reported as errors.

Why processing in your browser matters

Many online tools upload your files or text to a server to process them. This one does the work on your computer or phone, so your data is not sent to us or stored anywhere else. That lowers the risk when you work with confidential material, although you should still follow your organisation's own rules. Read how this works in our Privacy Policy.

  • No uploads: files are opened and saved on your device, so there is no upload or download wait.
  • No account: nothing to sign up for or install.
  • Free to use: no subscriptions or paywalls.
