How Client-Side List Sorting Works
Alphabetical List Sorter (A-Z, Z-A, by Length) runs entirely in your browser with JavaScript. There is no sign-up, and whatever you type or open here is processed on your device instead of being sent to a server.
Sort Text Lists and Keywords Privately in Your Browser
Alphabetize lists of names, keywords, items, or inventory codes directly in browser memory. All sorting executes on-device, keeping internal project lists and customer names completely private.
Natural Numeric and Alphabetical Sorting
Choose Sort A-Z, Sort Z-A, Sort by Length, Reverse or Random Shuffle; A-Z and Z-A always use natural numeric sorting. Natural sorting places 'Item 2' before 'Item 10', avoiding the classic alphabetical trap where numbers group unnaturally. Empty lines are removed from the result.
Unicode and Accented Character Support
Uses your browser's language-aware comparison (Intl.Collator), so accented letters such as รฉ, รถ and รผ sort by the rules of your browser's language; in English, 'รฉ' sorts next to 'e'.
Sorting Names, Spreadsheet Columns and Reference Lists
Paste one item per line. A column copied from a spreadsheet pastes as one value per line, ready to sort, and the sorted result can be pasted straight back. Capital and lower-case letters are sorted together (apple, Banana, cherry) instead of all capitals first, as a plain character-code sort would do. Lines that start with a number are ordered by its value, including negative and decimal numbers: -10, -5, 1.25, 1.5, 20 Items, 100 Items. Blank lines are dropped, and leading spaces are ignored for the order but kept in the result. For a bibliography or a list of titles, note that A-Z sorts each line exactly as written: it does not skip 'The' or 'A' at the start, and it keeps repeated lines (the Duplicate Line Remover takes those out). Random Shuffle uses a Fisher-Yates shuffle, so every order is equally likely, which is handy for draw orders, quiz questions and seating plans.
Why processing in your browser matters
Many online tools upload your files or text to a server to process them. This one does the work on your computer or phone, so your data is not sent to us or stored anywhere else. That lowers the risk when you work with confidential material, although you should still follow your organisation's own rules. Read how this works in our Privacy Policy.
- No uploads: files are opened and saved on your device, so there is no upload or download wait.
- No account: nothing to sign up for or install.
- Free to use: no subscriptions or paywalls.
